Grammar steps to improve your English skills. A. Step 1: Parts of Speech Parts of speech are the basic categories of words in a language, based on their grammatical function and meaning. The main parts of speech are: 1. Nouns (N):  Words that refer to people, places, things, and ideas. * Examples: dog, city, happiness 2. Verbs (V):  Words that express actions, events, or states of being. * Examples: run, jump, think 3. Adjectives (Adj):  Words that modify or describe nouns or pronouns. * Examples: happy, big, blue 4. Adverbs (Adv):  Words that modify or describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. * Examples: quickly, very, well 5. Pronouns (Pron):  Words that replace nouns in a sentence. * Examples: he, she, it, they 6.
